About Me
Vickie Benson, Certified Professional Coach
International Coach Federation and Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator
As a coach, I can help you focus in on the best self that you want/need. My approach to coaching is about finding those aspects of yourself that are just out of reach to your current self or consciousness.
For those who are willing to explore, this form of coaching works both personally and professionally. It is my belief that we are happier and more productive when we can tap into and be our authentic selves, no matter what the situation.
We would focus on the whole self. I like to draw out and investigate the many ways of knowing that we have. I believe that the dominant culture in the United States focuses a lot on intellect, written word, expert advice—all helpful, but sometimes we forget about other ways of knowing such as intuition, feelings, the natural world, metaphor, family or ancestral memory. Exploring these can help you find your truest self. We wouldn’t abandon the more conventional ways of knowing, it’s simply additive.
We would look at deep patterns that keep you from shifting into your best self. Where do those patterns show up in your body, in your feelings and expression? We could also explore those parts of the self that hold you back or question your desires and, in essence, stop you in your tracks—we all have them in one way or another.
This work is also appropriate for discerning ethnic, racial, cultural differences and understanding in cross-cultural and anti-racism work. All of these areas and many more are perfect for coaching.
Coaching is not therapy—there is no focus on pathology and it is not consulting—a coach doesn’t provide answers, just potential pathways to your best self. Also, as a coach I may interrupt and ask supportive questions about any kind of spiraling that isn’t reflective of your best self. As a coach, I listen deeply and create a container for trust and a space for bravery and dreaming.
